BIOGRAPHY:

Yining Ren is a Chinese artist with a foundation of art education in China currently attending Thompson Rivers University, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). He specializes in painting and printmaking and has a keen interest in cultural fusion and innovation, aiming to express emotions and promote cultural awareness through art.

Growing up surrounded by the vibrant traditions and landscapes of his homeland, yining draws inspiration from his roots. A deep appreciation for the intersection of art and culture developed. His artistic endeavors are imbued with a deep connection to his heritage as he explores themes of cultural fusion and innovation through painting and printmaking.

Yining Ren loves to innovate and incorporate his feelings into his paintings. An eclectic approach to creativity and different emotional inputs makes his creativity particularly free and diverse. Of course, this is accompanied by a high failure rate, as his moods often cause his previous paintings to get stuck, and his style and mood to be very different from the previous ones. But he is also fascinated by exploring this unknown style of painting.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This series originated from a photographic adventure in 2019, when I had not yet had much
experience with photography, and the photographs I took were less than desirable. However, over time, memories have been embellished. The images were tweaked and improved in my head and they revealed a unique landscape that was not there before.

This series of works is my exploration and practice of my own painting techniques, aiming to go beyond the conventional comparison between painting and photography. In my opinion, painting is different from photography in that it gives the viewer a glimpse of the artist’s unique perspective and interpretation of the world.

During the creative process, I continued to explore the path and gradually found the direction I wanted to go. I firmly believe that painting techniques can perfect the images in people’s minds and present the real world to the viewers in a new perspective. Starting from the simplest landscapes, I try to lead the viewer through the boundaries of time and space, giving them a glimpse of each individual’s unique vision. My goal is not only to create beautiful images, but also to incorporate emotions and thoughts into them, so that the viewer can find empathy and space for reflection in the works.

By constantly experimenting with different techniques, I try to give each piece of work a unique atmosphere and emotion, and strive to arouse the viewer’s emotional resonance. I use impressionistic techniques to express the ever-changing beauty of the sunrise and sunset, the wind and the clouds through the modulation of light and color, and at the same time, I explore the interplay between contrasts to interpret the delicate emotional landscapes.

Each piece represents a step along the path of my artistic exploration, building on past experiences and pushing the boundaries of myself. In the process of creation, I find the direction I want to go in, and hope that through my painting skills I can show the viewer a different world in each person’s eyes.
