BIOGRAPHY:
Morgan dislikes talking about himself as well as preferring not to be around other people,
he enjoys the comforts of painting and sketching where he finds most of his peace from the otherwise noisy world. He is a member of the Saik’uz First Nation and his art reflects his
heritage through both symbolism and design. He was born in Kamloops, raised in Valemount and now attends Thompson Rivers University where he studies the fine arts. In his previous works he has been bringing attention to the red dress campaign as well as the injustice the First Nations Peoples of Canada have had to endure as well as his own struggle within his mixed heritage. He enjoys most mediums and excels in adapting new mediums to suit his style. To conclude, most of his works reflect his heritage through his preferred medium of painting while finishing his fine arts degree within Thompson Rivers University.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
For the final year I wanted to explore ideas and things that I liked as well as things
that I would be able to effectively present. I started off with the idea to make two big
paintings and have been working on ideas for them during this semester. I settled on the
idea of something to do with space and time, where these things slowly contort that of
which is around them giving insight into what an outside observer may be seeing in our
universe.
With my smaller projects I have been making I have been exploring ways I can effectively create the idea for my larger paintings, I am happy to say they have been a boon for my knowledge. I have been trying out different ways with my style and working on making things more abstract to what I am feeling.
The ideas behind my paintings for the final show is the magnification of the micro, turning things that we don’t always see into things we can. The idea of macro microorganisms gave me an idea and how our bodies may seem different to them, much like our surroundings may look like something to us, to them it may seem just as normal. I enjoyed looking through the ideas that I had and am happy with the results of them.
